Yeah, that moveset has always been good for PvP. I rocked the Sun Sword for a good long while in DS2. Feels good to kick ass with such a simple weapon when they are using some fancy bullshit or overcompensating with a giant monstrosity. I prefer the curved sword to the straight sword though.
