After going through more devices that I'd care to admit, I also think the RGB30 and MM+ are amazing. And while there is a significant overlap in what they play, I'm not ready to give up either one! The MM+ still takes my heart as very small, but still playable and premium-feeling but that screen on the RGB30 is :chef's kiss:.
On my side I installed the latest ArkOS for RGB30 yesterday. Using the default PSX core (pcsx rearmed), there is a core option to double resolution, I switched that on. No shaders, no rewind. I tested Ridge Racer R4 and Ape Escape. Got a solid 60fps without dips. One of the top comments was: “Switch to ArkOS”. It’s great that we have options, but not if it is at the expense of troubleshooting. I have no experience with ArkOS (yet) but there is a FAQ for JelOS which has options for this specific type of issue. Installed ARKOS on RGB30 with all my games. ArkOS a little bit more setup, but more options to tweak if you want and slightly more performant for higher tier systems. At least that’s how it was explained to me.
I have a rgb30 with ArkOS v2.0 (02/23/2024) Update, I am connecting it via HDMI to a 4K 70 inch television. When using Emulation Station the RGB30 has an output of 720p. when Retroarch launches, the output is changed to 1080p.Extract that zip out, there is a folder named es-theme-art-book-next-arkos. To me, my devices are great and I had little to no issues since I was modding them anyway. I still have JelOS on a different SD card but now I run ArkOS.
