It sounds like you have a damaged, worn, fouled, or out of spec extractor or chamber, if , in fact, the pistol is at fault. Only a close inspection by a gunsmith will answer that. If you let the trigger out a little, it will click, and if you pull the trigger from there, the hammer will drop, but no boom.
