Oct 4, 2018 · Took another look at it today. First, the net wrap V belt at the back of the baler. The manual says to unlock the knife and pull back on it to put tension on the belt. This should put knife 10mm rearwards of this plate. and here's a picture of mine, tough to tell in the picture but it's forward of the metal plate.

I have a 535 JD round baler. can't seem to change the adjustment on the tensioner. old one was frozen up. Replaced it ($300) but steal no matter where I set the adjustment the bales won’t get any denser. The gauge is showing all the way lite. If I push down on the hydraulic leaver to close the gate the gauge shows a denser bale.

530's were built in the early 80's,535's were the next model. Both make 5X6 bales. Both have hyd tension on belts but 535 has 2 tension cylinders plus gate cylinders for tension while 530 uses 2 large springs plus gate cylinders for tension. 530 has one twine arm while 535 has dual twine arms and holds twice as much twine. Both have bale monitors.
