I have an Ithaca model 51 that I have used for duck hunting for the past 9 years. I only had one problem when I first got the gun. It was well below 0 and I the synthetic piece behind the bolt shattered. I had this fixed for $110.00 and haven't had a problem since. Production of them suspended in 1987. I always liked the look of the 51 trap guns and the way they fit me but never got a chance to shoot one.I pattern tested my Ithaca 51 12ga tonight. I shot a reload of 7/8 ounce of #6 at 1200 fps. The 26" IC barrel put 134 of 218 pellets (hand counted) in a 30 inch circle at 40 yards for 61%. The Model 51 is only a three shot shotgun. The 51 will not feed a shell every time when working manually. You have to push the carrier release each time.
