Unchecking these will give you greater control over the things you can easily access in game. You can adjust your Hotbar in a variety of ways. All the other tabs are fine. All the other characters are fine. The "custom" section of the main hotbar has the slider and can be expanded but those last two columns are just not part of the hotbar. The hotbar worked fine when the character was only attached to the party but it has this issue as soon as they become an official companion.
