I have a 336 in 35 Remington. An original JM stamped firearm. I have handled, but not owned, a new Ruger/Marlin. My initial indications are Ruger has done the platform justice. Ruglins are a touch less classy, a touch less pretty, and every bit as functional as any Marlin you will shoot. I’m impressed with the originals.When Marlin was sold to the Freedom Group/Remington, the Marlin plant in New Haven CT was closed and production was moved to various Remington plants.
