Jun 1, 2009 · Getrag 260 Rear Seal Replacement? long story short i was out a roadtrip today and somehow the car managed to snag the reverse switch wiring and wrap it around the output, damaging the seal in the process so now its pissing out brand new gear oil from the rear seal. Getrag 260 rebuilt tranmissions. Currently in use in over 6 spec e30 race cars our rebuilt transmissions provide the best in quality and price. Each transmission is fully dissambled, cleaned, and inspected. Each gear, bearing and synchro is inspected for wear. Worn items are replaced.

The bearings are not common so they're really expensive. It's easy to separate the front half of the box from the rear half though. You really need access to a press to do it all properly, and a 30mm thin walled deep socket (I made one) to undo the output shaft nut. The sound completely goes away when either the clutch pedal is engaged or the car is in gear.
